The Welling Court Mural Project began after Welling Court resident Jonathan Ellis came to Ad Hoc Art’s Bushwick gallery in 2009 representing his Welling Court community and their desire to beautify their neighborhood. After a mutually appreciative and enjoyable meeting, Ad Hoc Art was invited out to the Astoria neighborhood to help envision a way to make this happen. It was a perfect fit, as there were surfaces to be painted and Ad Hoc knew people who enjoy painting surfaces. Jonathan had already planted the seeds received support from the community and permission for some walls to paint, which was key. We continued to hit the pavement and meet the community, growing the project bit by bit, one mural at a time. Through grassroots outreach and word of mouth, the project has had an interesting and impactful evolution.

Now in its 9th year, the art, variety, and talent keeps getting better! Join us Saturday from 12-8pm for a block party and a ton of great art, all FREE. Take the N or W to 30th Avenue in Astoria and walk or take the bus west towards the water. You'll find us all there.

The Project hosts murals by artists from around the corner and around the world, providing new arrays of visual experiences that change how people experience and interact with their environment. The Welling Court Mural Project is one of the best collections of contemporary street culture on earth, all within this hidden gem of NYC! It is on pubic streets, so it is free and open to the public 24/7/365.

Some artists of past and/or present: Abe Lincoln, Jr., AM, Alison Buxton, AVOID, Beau Stanton, Caleb Neelon, Cekis, Cern, Cey Adams, Christopher Cardinale, Chris RWK, Chris Soria, Col Wallnuts, Cram Concepts, CRASH, Crisp, D Gale, Dan Witz, Danielle Mastrion, Daryll Peirce, Dasic Fernandez, DAZE, Depoe, Don Leicht, Elle, EpicUno, Free5, Fumero, Ghost Beard, Hellbent, Icy & Sot, JC, J Corp, Jamie Hef, Jenna Morello, Jerms, Joe Iurato, John Breiner, John Fekner, Joseph Meloy, Kid Lew, Kimyon Huggins, KR One, KWUE Molly, Lady Pink, Lexi Bella, lmnopi, LogikOne, MagdaLove, MAST, Mastro, Meres One, MR. PRVRT, Muck Rock, Noah Xfir, Onel, PANIC, Patch Whiskey, Peat Wollaeger, Praxis, Python, Queen Andrea, Rene Gagnon, Rob Sharp, Royal Kingbee, Rubin415, Ryan Seslow, SeeOne, Sest2, Shiro, Sinned, Steven Cogle, Thundercut, TOPAZ, TooFly, Trans/Noir, Veng RWK, YesOne, Zheik, Zimad, & more from the Ad Hoc Art family…

Together, with the help of myriad others from the community and beyond, this project grows each year, receiving a wide range of interest and acclaim, from the likes of The New York Times, US News and World Report, Huffington Post, NBC Universal, NY1, HyperAllergic, Brooklyn Street Art, 12oz Prophet, Sold Magazine, StreetArtNYC, Street Art NY, and and many others.

Sadly, we have lost some large commercial industrial spots, at least 2 in the past year alone, so we may actually take a step backward for the first time if we do not gain some new walls soon. We hope the importance the public art and the role it plays in positive environmental quality and health is considered in the future development of the neighborhood.

One mural at a time; in love and solidarity; forever we are one.
